Pokestory

"Hello, trainers!

I’m sure all of you understand how easy it is losing yourself in something you love!  However, you must make sure to take care of yourself.  If you guys get sick, you won’t be able to help me with my research!  Ha ha.  Just kidding!  It’s important to eat.

Musa’s bananas?  Well, I’m actually allergic to bananas, but even if I wasn’t, I don’t think I’d want to pluck bananas off of my friend and eat them.  I-I’m sure they taste delicious though, Musa!”

Pokestory is on Twitter!

"Hello my dumplings!

After a short discussion with a man in Dewford Town, I’ve decided to create a Twitter account to remain “hip and trendy.” It was either make a Twitter account or participate in “ADULT SLUDGE BOMB,” whatever that means…

If you have a Twitter account, you can follow me @PokestoryZine to keep up with PokeStory updates and get a glimpse into the life of a Pokemon Professor!”

"Hello there trainers!

I wish my research went smoothly all the time, but sometimes I hit a wall or the research data just doesn’t add up. I end up frustrated and wanting to wreck the place, but it’s fine as long as I have my lovely partners taking care of me and reminding me why I love researching the bonds between people and pokemon.

Also Paella’s pretty great at mixing and preparing drinks. I still don’t know how she does it, but her coffee is unbeatable.”

…Whoops! I let Musa take over for the week, but I guess I forgot she can’t type so well…anyway…

Howdy trainers!

Isn’t Musa so lovely? Even though she can’t type too well, she loves helping me with all of my research. That’s why building a relationship with your Pokemon is important! If my Pokemon and I can be this close, who knows how strong the bonds of other trainers and their Pokemon can be! Who knows, maybe one day your Pokemon will help you as much as mine has helped me! ;)

"Hello trainers!

While Paella and Musa help me with my research, I sometimes forget to just spend time with them. Playing with your Pokemon is important! Paella loves being able to “fly” with Musa, and Musa is always excited to race and catch her.

…What’s that? Is this safe? Of course it is! Just because I’m a professor doesn’t mean I’m not fit. In fact, during my time at the university, I was a star athlete in the Discus and PokeBall Throw competitions!

…That’s not what you meant?”

ART TEMPLATE IS UP!!

Hello Trainers!!

After some talking and discussing, we have finally addressed the main need of PokeStory: The Art Template. We decided on a Comic Book format and after reviewing what most printing templates follow, we feel this will satisfy the needs for the zine itself. Also, here is a reminder of how to turn in the final image:

  • Filename should be ARTISTNAME_PokeStory2_001.PSD per file, the number is for how many pages you are turning in.
  • The final file should be a FLAT, CMYK-CODED, 300+ DPI PSD File, if you have any questions for this format feel free to let us know!
  • All files should be emailed to us, and in case the attachment is too big, use a file transfer service like WETRANSFER for it!
  • The Subject of your submission on the email should be ARTIST NAME - POKESTORY 2 SUBMISSION, the body of the email can be anything you want us to take notice.
  • Remember! No URL or Watermarks in your pieces, Signatures are ok!
  • THERE WILL BE ANOTHER TEMPLATE FOR THE CREDITS SECTION. We are still creating it but we hope it will be released this week! Again, like last year it will feature you as a Trainer + Your Fav Pokemon… but with a TWIST!
  • Please don’t post your finished piece until we release the zine. WIPs are ok to be posted as long as you tag them #PokeStory.

You can find it HERE and be sure to read the ART GUIDELINES too! Remember that WE ARE STILL OPEN TO SIGN UPS UNTIL OCTOBER 1ST. And Submissions are DUE on NOVEMBER 1st.

"Greetings Trainers!

When I’m not working, I love to relax with good company and good drinks. Paella’s a sweetheart and she always helps out with the refreshments, whether it’s for an office party or a hot date ;)

… wait, Paella, what do you mean that YOU’RE the one who’s on a date?!”

"Hey trainers!

Just because I’m a Pokemon Professor now doesn’t mean I don’t rely on my own Pokemon partners! A lot of my research wouldn’t have been possible without Musa and Paella. They’re my wonderful friends too, even when I don’t think their assignments through completely ha ha…Maybe I’ll take care of the Mt. Chimney research sites from now on…”

I'm sorry I just seem to be a little confused. I plan on writing a story as a submission so do I send my name, username/website, 3 samples of my previous work, AND the story I plan to submit or do I wait to see if I've been accepted? And my fellow artist will have to follow the same guidelines, is that right?

Sorry for the late response! Currently we will not be accepting text stories, only illustrations or comics. Here are the instructions on the submission post:

"If you are interested in contributing, just send us an e-mail with your name (username, twitter handle, etc.) and website/art blog. We will respond with more information and add your name to an artist directory on the PokeStory tumblr. Then, just send your completed submission to us at pokestory.zine@gmail.com before the deadline, November 1st."

So when we accept you, you can then send in whatever you have for your entry.

shavostars:

I think about pokemon in non-battle situations a lot. Like pokemon who have been trained/raised to be helpers and assistants than to be battle partners.

Pokemon visiting hospitals to cheer patience up like dogs and cats do. Or ones that help kids learn to read, speak, swim, go through therapy?! Even pokemon who’s abilities help owners with specific disabilities?!

I love thinking of pokemon outside of battle situations.

Here in PokeStory we dont usually reblog things outside the many things that happen within our staff, but we want to bring this to your attention as a point of inspiration. This is pretty much one of the cores of what PokeStory is: Pokemon and humans living together without the necessity of battle.

PokeStory was created to illustrate an aspect of Pokemon that most people dont recognize: the companionship of Pokemon, the sense of mystery, discovery and enchantment in a new world. And as time goes by, the characters you meet become more than an NPCs and scripted pieces of data to become companions and inspirations.

We hope you appreciate this fanart for its exceptional message and world view. Hopefully it will inspire many of our readers as well!

"Hello Trainers!

Have I told you about the time I first started my field duties as a Professor? Its hard work to go out there into the dens of wild pokemon to grab some notes and draw their intricate details down to the exact anatomy of them! As you can see, I am not a master artist. One more reason I am so excited to work with such talented trainers from all across the regions!”

Will we get to see some staff contributions in the second issue? You're all such awesome artists

We’ll definitely contribute because if we don’t, the boss man gives us 20 lashings each. But thank you for the compliment!

Hello my dear trainers!
I am very happy today! See, I started getting a whole bunch of emails in my lab from various trainers that are willing to participate and help me in my research! I have sent the staff scurrying to update the contributor list ahead of schedule.
To maintain order, I am gonna be updating this list every WEDNESDAY and SUNDAY depending on the number of trainers that email me each week. Also, I am gonna talk later about what formatting I will need for each submission I get for my research.
For now that’s all! Thanks everyone and I hope to see more of you come forward and share your journey with me!
